BIO
Fabifa is a tape artist who lives and creates in Berlin. Having moved to the city in 2015, she has experienced a newfound sense of freedom and self-discovery which she expresses through her art. Fabifa’s artistic focus is to capture harmonious moments and reflect her subject’s sensations and feelings, with a strong emphasis on aesthetics and beauty.
Tape is Fabifa’s primary medium, and she loves using it because it can bond and unite different ideas. Her art is all about making connections between different cultures and perspectives, and is inspired by a wide range of sources, including engravings, pop, and comic art.
Recently, Fabifa has been inspired by ultraviolet glowing corals and sea creatures, and has been exploring their correlation with the urban night life of a modern metropolis. Her art centers around human existence and perception, and she is interested in exploring the creation of a blueprint for the future of humanity.
Valeryia Losikava, known as Fabifa, is a contemporary tape artist based in Berlin since 2015. Born in Minsk, Belarus, in 1987, her artistic journey took a transformative turn in the open and liberating atmosphere of Berlin, where new-found freedom became the central theme of her art.
Fabifa’s creations are a fusion of personal experiences, emotional reflections, meticulous research, and diverse influences, exploring themes of freedom, self-realization, and the intersection of nature, technology, and human evolution. Influences span Berlin’s liberalism, Japanese engraving, club culture, Soviet poster art, and cultural elements from different countries.
Her vibrant artistic style, characterized by bold lines and vivid colors expressed through tape art, has garnered attention in duo and group exhibitions across renowned spaces such as KINESIS (2024), Not a Gallery, (2022), TAC, Berlin (2022), Monumenta, Leipzig (2018), Millentor Gallery, Hamburg (2018), and THE HAUS, Berlin (2017). Her most recent solo exhibition “Hidden emotions” took place at Mora Mora Gallery, Cancun, Mexico (2023). Notable collaborations with brands like Maybelline, IQOS and partnerships with iconic Berlin clubs underscore her impact in both the art and cultural scenes. Numerous private collectors acquiring her artwork underscore the significance of her work.
Fabifa’s creative process, involving capturing a muse’s essence through photography and translating it into tape art, harmoniously blends intentionality with creative freedom. Her artwork, laden with symbolism and hidden meanings, encourages viewers to engage with deeper layers, fostering a meaningful and introspective connection.
With long-term goals centered around delving deeper into her inner world, exploring emotions, and envisioning humanity’s trajectory, Fabifa’s vision extends to larger tape art installations in public spaces, international exhibitions, and sharing her creations globally. Her projects, like “Cyberbase” embody her commitment to pushing boundaries, inspiring conversations, and leaving a lasting impact on the world.
STATEMENT
I am Valeryia Losikava, a contemporary tape artist known as Fabifa. Freedom is the central theme that runs through my entire body of work. My artworks, often attributable to a specific theme, are the result of a deep and honest self-exploration combined with the study of human emotions, cultural influences, societal restrictions, and an ongoing analysis of the intersection of nature, technology, and human evolution.
In 2015, I took a life-changing decision to relocate from Belarus to Berlin, a city that granted me newfound freedoms unseen before – freedoms of self-realization, self-determination, self-expression, sexuality, and politics. My art is a visual expression of emotions, embedding hidden symbols and transforming my art into a powerful reflection of personal experiences.
The boldness, precision, and versatility of tape, my chosen medium, align seamlessly with my artistic vision. With every new theme, I delve into meticulous research, shaping the intricate layers of my artistic identity. My creative process, involving capturing a muse’s essence through photography and translating it into tape art, harmoniously blends intentionality with creative freedom.
